Where Does The Time Go?

I cannot believe it has been a month-and-a-half since I last wrote.  In the beginning, I figured it would be easier to keep up with writing via the computer because, as you know, typing is much quicker than writing.

But, I digress.

I have been so busy with minutia and the mundane daily activities that I find myself wanting nothing more than sleep at the end of an incredibly long day, and, after tucking the girls in at 8:00, Corbin and I retreat to my bedroom for much needed rest - even though he isn't sleeping through the night quite yet.

He had his two month well check on January 21 and now weighs 14 pounds 2 ounces.  He is consuming a can and a half of formula each day, since refusing the boob altogether and I can't say I blame him because if I saw those freakishly looking road maps disguised as boobs coming at me, I'd take a pass too.  He's healthy and right on schedule, according to Dr. Prack, and does not need to supplement with cereal until he is four months old because of the possibility of developing food allergies.  Of course, he needed four vaccinations and I still can't force myself to go into that dreaded room and hold him down.  I just can't do it.  I have Jim do it.  Let him be the bad guy.  When it's over, I comfort him.

We hosted a small gathering on Superbowl Sunday and Jim's mom and dad came for dinner.  I prepared jambalaya and chili and a hot dog bar for all the kids.  Charlie and a couple of his friends came too.  We've been trying to have Jim's parents over at least twice a month.  I enjoy cooking and I always make more than enough.  Not only that, but they are not the type of people to just show up for a visit, even though they live only minutes away in the same town.  I don't have family here and feel it's important for the kids to spend time with their grandparents and extended family outside of holidays and birthdays.

We also invited Jim's brother and his family, but, once again, they decided not to attend and socialize with the rest of us.  I don't understand that mentality at all.  It infuriates me that my husband's family lives in the same town, yet it's a big deal to gather everyone in the same place to share a meal...or even a cup of coffee.  I thought we were all making  progress after Corbin's birth, but, whatever I thought was going to happen was obviously misguided hope.

Anyway, it's lent.  I made grilled salmon with lobster mashed potatoes for dinner, which went over surprisingly well, considering Jim is not a big fan of fish.  I didn't have to worry about Kara's persnickety taste buds because Charlie picked them up after school for a quick weekend trip to Michigan to visit his family, and yes, Rosie is meeting them there.

I still haven't discovered what's at the root of the girls acting strange since they returned home on New Year's day.  And, it's not strange as in distant or bizarre, it's strange behavior in the sense that they will start to discuss something and then declare outloud, as if they are remembering something that someone told them NOT to talk about, and they immediately hush up or change the subject.  I prod, gently, for answers - because God forbid something happened to one of them on one of their trips with their dad - not that I believe he would ever do anything like THAT, but I want to reassure them that they can tell me. And, they have promised me that nothing happened and nobody has touched them inappropriately and I do believe that.

I also believe this has something to do with Charlie and Rosie, and despite my repeated attempts, I am getting no answers from him, either.
